Where’s the Breakthrough?

Everyone talks about AI and how it can boost dev productivity, or even replace us soon. Yet I’m still not seeing revolutionary new software or updates to existing apps that make my eyes pop. Why is that?

Could this just be another hype cycle, more about cutting salaries than building great products? And what happens in the long run, when technical debt piles up and the damage caused by “vibe coding” becomes irreversible?

I think I know the answer. I’ve seen this play out before, just on a much smaller scale. And yeah, it’s going to be ugly.
